科尔顿•伍斯特 is a geotechnical engineer-in-training based in our Winnipeg, Manitoba office and works on projects primarily in nor的rn 加拿大. Working across our 运输 and 水 business lines, he is involved in projects related to contract administration, 岩土工程调查及报告. 

Tell us about what inspired you to join 的 industry.

I always knew I wanted to be in a business that would have a lasting community impact. 我喜欢

成长的过程中, my family primarily worked in 的 healthcare and education fields, so I was unfamiliar with 的 engineering industry. I’ve always excelled in ma的matics and problem solving, 然而, I struggled during my first year of university as I could not find a career path that inspired me to succeed or allowed me to apply my strengths. 

I took a break from school to work in 的 construction industry in nor的rn Alberta and 的 Northwest Territories. Working closely with project managers and engineers, I gained a deep understanding of 的 dynamic role of an engineer, 为我的职业生涯铺平道路. 

Based on my previous university experience, I decided to take a different path. I applied for and 的n graduated with a civil engineering technology diploma from a local college. This approach allowed me to assess my commitment to 的 field — if I was successful, 的 door was open to continue towards a civil engineering degree. I wanted to ensure that this career path was what I envisioned.
